Everyone is welcome

No one is required to attend worship, prayer or Bible study, or share our beliefs, to receive help. Religious activities are optional.

We welcome people regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, religious belief, socioeconomic status or sexual orientation. Spanish-language help is available as needed, and wheelchair access is available. Volunteer peer support depends on volunteer availability and is not professional clinical counseling.

Our story

• 1985: A community vision for the Mission began.
• 1987: The Mission incorporated.
• 1988: The Mission received its IRS tax-exemption letter.
• 2002: The thrift store opened.
• 2006: Sierra House opened.

Today the Mission serves neighbors from its owned facility at 111 S. Texas Street, behind Jalisco’s Restaurant. Programs include meals, food pantries, clothing, showers, laundry and resource assistance. Sierra House provides shelter for women and children on a space-available basis. Contact the Mission to check current availability and learn more. A place is not guaranteed. Pantry to the People usually serves Santa Clara, Bayard and Hurley, with occasional distributions elsewhere. Check current service details before visiting.

Our mission

We are dedicated to serving the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of those in need of food, shelter, and other assistance. As a community and as a team we strive to be an oasis of welcome, safety, cleanliness and emotional support to people who are homeless, and to individuals and families living at or below the poverty line in Silver City, New Mexico. Our day-to-day operations include our soup kitchen, thrift store, food pantries and morning markets, shower and laundry facilities, practical assistance and referrals to other area resources. Volunteer peer support is available when volunteers are present; it is not professional clinical counseling.

Our vision

Our commitment is to living out Christ's spirit of love and radical hospitality without conditions or judgment, always recognizing the dignity and spiritual destiny of each person. Our wish is to create a community that nourishes not only the physical needs of those who enter our doors, but also the spiritual need of every human being for love, acceptance, respect, friendship and salvation. We serve each person according to our Lord's command that “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me" (Matthew 25:40, KJV)  And we envision a world in which everyone, no matter who they are, can experience the transforming power of God's love and mercy.
